Withnail & I

Withnail & I is one of my favorite movies. It is the story of two wannabe actors going on holiday in the English countryside. With drugs and alcohol. When the movie starts out, the characters are on a 60 hour speed binge, you know it’s gonna be good. They decide to take a holiday and get out of the city. Withnail has a gay uncle who has a house in the countryside they go and stay at. Needless to say, they are totally unprepared for living out in the middle of nowhere.

You can basically think of this as Fear and Loathing (which is another of my favorite movies) but in England. This movie has been kind of a cult film with followers of Fear and Loathing and other drug culture movies. The movie is filled with absolutely great writing and awesome acting to boot. This is a good movie and I definitely recommend you watch it.

Uncertainty

I have no idea what this movie is about. I was saying WTF the entire time I was watching it. It’s like a split time line with a couple, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and the lovely Lynn Collins. The best thing I can compare this movie to is maybe Lola rennt.

The story starts off bizarre, they toss a coin and run to a different life line if you will. In one reality they are a loving couple expecting a kid with their only fears being the future and telling the parents the girl is pregnant. The other life line is more adventurous which includes them being hunted over a cell phone possibly containing some sensitive information about an important government person.

If anyone has seen this movie and can tell me what’s really going on I’d appreciate it. I couldn’t figure it out. Is there something to figure out? What am I missing?

New Town Killers

The plot of this movie sounded good, and it probably could have been executed better. The movie is about two bankers that play a game of cat and mouse with people. They give them 12 hours to run and hide and if they make it out alive, they win the money.

I absolutely loved the story. The acting was great and where did the main character come from? Out of nowhere! Props to James Anthony Pearson on that. For being an independent film I was pleasantly surprised. Not much more to say other than give it a shot. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dobermann

Dobermann is a fast action movie which I think was based off a comic. I’m not entirely sure. It’s basically about a gang of bank robbers that go all out.

It’s got a great cast, Vincent Cassel, Monica Bellucci, Tchéky Karyo just to name a few. Very fast paced movie, drugs, guns, violence. What more can you ask for? If you want something to sit back and ease into things (and subtitles are ok for you) give it a shot. You probably won’t see something like this made in the US. We don’t see a lot of movies where they shove someone’s head out of a car at high speed and just grind it up.

Though if I made an action movie, I’d certainly have that in there.
