This acting is so awful, I don’t even have the words to describe it, and I’ve just come off a decent acid binge. For the time period, this movie was revolting, and that’s what it wanted to be. People loved it. Instant cult classic. For me however it was lacking, but who am I to say for a time period I wasn’t apart of.

Pink Flamingos

John Waters (Cinematographer). New Line Home Entertainment 2004, DVD, $7.99

I’ve love to see this pulled off now. The acting was great, story was great. A feminist theater company Depardieu sometimess works for was having troubles coming up with an idea. Someone mentioned rape as a subject. They tried to do a reverse rape on Depardieu, but they liked it heh. Interesting part of the movie.

There’s plenty of nudity in here, as well as Depardieu making out with a 60 year old woman. The ending was a bit dramatic, but I liked it.

One comment on IMDB hit it correctly: Is it another world, or our world gone mad?

Bye Bye Monkey

James Coco (Performer). Koch Lorber Films 1978, DVD, $6.99

After they have secured the prisoners from The Colonel and his men, one of them being a woman, they attempt to leave. The woman fights her way past the gunfighters son and rides with him, leaving his son behind with monks.

The lady says she’ll only stay with him if he defeats the four masters in the desert. So the quest is on. Riding through the desert the gun fighter shows his skills. He can shoot a rock and water will come forth. He can dig in the sand and find eggs to eat. This looks to be based on his faith in God.

As time goes on, the lady seems to corrupt him and lose his faith.

I won’t give up the details of the quest to destroy the masters, but it is epic and he learns a lot. After the quest is over you’ll understand why it’s called El Topo. This is a great movie and Jodorowsky really takes you on a journey. It is a must see. If you had to see only one Jodorowsky film, I’d say The Holy Mountain, but this comes in second place.

I’m still amazed at this movie. Dude is genius. Dustin Hoffman’s performance is stunning.

The basic premise of the story is Dustin Hoffman’s character is married to a girl in England. They take a vacation in what I think is her father’s house. There’s a group of guys that are jealous of his beautiful wife and you can tell early on something is going to happen with that situation. There is a local misfit that gets in some trouble and Hoffman is the only one that defends him, but brings on a lot more trouble than he first realizes.

The film includes some great sexism from what I think it was like back in the day. I laughed.

As the movie goes on it only gets better. A lot of violence and rape. And violence.

Hoffman basically has to defend his house from those crazy English hooligans. Without weapons. He does a great job. This is a great movie. I might even have to add it to our Top 10 List here on wtflicks.

Straw Dogs

The basic premise of the film is that this guy is “unstuck” in time. He travels through time in his life but he has no control over it.

The movie is kinda fail. I think the book might be much better. There was a lot of plot holes and a lot of general time travel inconsistencies. The acting was ok. I’m not sure how this movie was nominated for a Golden Globe.

What I would really like to see is this movie remade with today’s technology. I think it would be quite awesome. I really would like to hear your comments on this movie and what you thought of it. Am I missing something as to the movie’s greatness? I don’t know, please comment!

Slaughterhouse Five

Miroslav Ondrícek (Cinematographer). Universal Studios 1972, DVD, $8.80

So the hunt is on for the father, dead or alive. The movie takes place in mostly rural parts of Mexico with some beautiful scenery shots. Without going into detail, a bartender and his hooker of a girlfriend go on a quest to find the guy and collect the bounty, who she claims is already dead.

There are a couple surprises I won’t divulge while they are on their quest. But they do find the grave of the guy they are looking for. A shootout or two later the head is returned to El Jefe at the Mexican ranch in return for the money, but that wasn’t enough. Now we’ve got to kill the Mexican gang boss. Lordy. This is pretty wtf for the time period, and overall a very good movie. If you get the chance, give it a watch, it’s worth it.

Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia

Helmut Dantine (Producer). MGM (Video & DVD) 1974, DVD, $6.64

You get to experience some South American history played out with the use of frogs dressed up as Conquistadors as the hand-less, leg-less torso guy follows the Jesus-like guy around town. I’ll spare the wackness you get to see, as it is just too nutty for me to explain.

The Jesus-like character finds a mentor (who is played by Jodorowsky himself), who becomes the teacher for a group of (crazy ass) people looking for the Holy Mountain. This guy is awesome. The other members of the group are from different planets, each one gives an introduction of their planet and businesses. The journey to the Holy Mountain is quite epic and my writings will nowhere near give it the credit this movie deserves. Whatever Jodorowsky was smoking when he thought of this, I want some.

Overall, great movie, a must watch. It might not all make sense to you at first, but give it your full attention. This movie is on our Top 10 List of WTF Movies. Bet you didn’t know you could turn your excrement into gold did ya?

It has everything you’d want from a 1970s scifi movie. Great music theme for a space comedy/thriller. Superb special effects. Not interested in intelligent lifeforms, the crew of five fly around space blowing up planets that might be unstable. From what I understand it is a college film from director John Carpenter, and you can really tell he was going to be a great director/writer. Coming in at one hour twenty-two minutes, it’s definitely worth a watch if you like space comedy al la Spaceballs.

The end of the movie culminates from a man vs. computer battle in deciding what’s real and what’s not. Sound familiar?
