As his memory comes back he finds himself traveling in time between two points in time where he attempts to try and change what cannot be changed.

Overall, it was a good movie as long as you like mindfuck movies (if you didn’t why are you here?). If you liked the idea of The Butterfly Effect I think you’d like this, at least I enjoyed it. Easy enough to watch and not require a lot of brain cells, but maybe just a bit too much for the general audience.

The I Inside

Dimension 2005, DVD, $7.77

The movie is about an accountant from Cleveland heading out west because he was promised a job. Well, it took him two months to get there and the job was already filled. Distressed from having used all his money to travel and get that job, he goes to the saloon and buys a drink. Eventually meets a lady and goes to her place. Now to make a long story short, he kills the woman’s ex-boyfriend and is on the run from the law where he meets an Indian.

The movie might be a little slow, but it’s a typical Jim Jarmusch movie. Which is good, because I love his movies (Coffee and Cigarettes, Ghost Dog, Broken Flowers, etc). Filmed in black and white gave it the old western style look.

It’s a very good movie if you like Depp (there’s some other big names in it as well Gary Farmer, John Hurt, Billy Bob Thornton to name a few). It almost reminded me of a Tarantino movie a bit. I’d recommend this movie if you like either Jarmusch or Tarantino’s works.

How can you not want to watch that? I guess it was actually two takes, the first got screwed up so they started over. It happens.

The movie is about a guy wandering the State Hermitage Museum in Russia, but he is unseen by other people. He meets another guy who isn’t Russian but somehow understands the language and can speak it. They wander through the museum and see various people from Russian history. There’s definitely a lot of WTF things about it. A lot of questions left unanswered or up to you.

The film is pretty damn neat. I am a fan of director Aleksandr Sokurov’s other movies as well, like Mother and Son and The Sun . The movie is pretty good, it’s engaging. I like history stuff in general so I am probably biased. For some people I can see how it might be boring. Also, it’s in Russian, so you’ll need some subs.

Russian Ark

Fox Lorber 2003, DVD, $33.95

It’s set in the future in a society that seems more truth than fiction, kinda like the movie Idiocracy. The movie is about a government worker who tries to fix a wrongful arrest/killing, but ends up being the one the government goes after. With a bit of comedy and seriousness to the liking I hope we never see, it is entertaining.

Movies like these that depict the future and how we might evolve or devlove are pretty inhteresting to watch.Who knows if we’ll end up with no government like Idiocracy or an incompetent, more paperwork than ever and no questions asked government like in this movie.

Overall, the movie is good. It’s become somewhat of a cult hit. If you like other Terry Gilliam movies, no doubt you’ll like this one. Brazil is also in IMDB’s Top 250 movies at number 245. http://www.imdb.com/chart/top?tt0088846

Universal Studios 2007, DVD, $7.48

The movie is set in the future, seemingly post-apocalyptic world where food is scarce. One small French town survives by eating people under the guise of a butcher’s shop.

It all seems good until the butcher’s daughter falls for one of the new tenants they are about to feast on.

Overall the movie is excellent. Great directing, acting, and plot. Give it a shot if you have seen and liked the other movies I listed from this director.

Delicatessen (Special Edition)

Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Writer). Lions Gate 1987, DVD, $5.49

It’s about a little girl who’s parents die and she gets pretty taken into her own little imaginative world. It’s a Terry Gilliam film, so you know it’s gonna be pretty wonky and out there. His directing is awesome though with great shots, as most of his work is.

Jodelle Ferland, who plays the little girl, does an amazing job. For an 11 year old (at time of filming), it’s crazy how good she is. Jeff Bridges role is funny, I think that was a good casting decision there.

I think what most gets people irked from this movie is the little girl helping her dad injecting himself with drugs. Not a scene most people see or are ready for.

Great movie, another on the must-see list.

Tideland (Two-Disc Collector’s Edition)

Velocity / Thinkfilm 2007, DVD, $0.99

After they have secured the prisoners from The Colonel and his men, one of them being a woman, they attempt to leave. The woman fights her way past the gunfighters son and rides with him, leaving his son behind with monks.

The lady says she’ll only stay with him if he defeats the four masters in the desert. So the quest is on. Riding through the desert the gun fighter shows his skills. He can shoot a rock and water will come forth. He can dig in the sand and find eggs to eat. This looks to be based on his faith in God.

As time goes on, the lady seems to corrupt him and lose his faith.

I won’t give up the details of the quest to destroy the masters, but it is epic and he learns a lot. After the quest is over you’ll understand why it’s called El Topo. This is a great movie and Jodorowsky really takes you on a journey. It is a must see. If you had to see only one Jodorowsky film, I’d say The Holy Mountain, but this comes in second place.

This was a really enjoyable movie. The first time you might be like, what is going on. And that is cool, just watch it again.

The movie is about a  guy that falls in love with his neighbor but is also a highly imaginative fellow. His dreams are played out entirely in the movie which gives it the WTF factor. I don’t know what he takes to have dreams like he does, but I want some of whatever he’s on.

The cast was amazing and you knew they got along well. Great chemistry or just good actors/actresses? I think both. The cast included: Charlotte Gainsbourg (she’s definitely getting more popular), Alain Chabat, and the amazing Gael García Bernal.

There’s a mix of French and English, you’ll want to have the English subs on however. I loved it, you might shake your head as you watch it, but you’ll love it too. This is among the must see films.

The Science of Sleep

Inigo Lezzi (Producer). Warner Home Video 2007, DVD, $3.99

This was a recommendation from a reader. A very good recommendation. The movie is about a scientist that kidnaps children for their dreams. I didn’t really understand why he was doing this though. It also might be the only film I’ve seen Ron Perlman speak French, probably because he doesn’t speak it though his lines were flawless.

The movie is a cross between steampunk themed and something else. I’m not entirely sure. The colors and the way it was shot reminds me a lot of the movie Delicatessen, which I will have a review up here soon. This was a good movie, I enjoyed it. It is French so you’ll need subtitles if you don’t speak French. The story is good and well executed. The acting was great. Definitely check this movie out.
